Why Give Thanks to God?
Every year in November, we set aside a day of Thanksgiving. Why is it important to do this, not only on this day of Thanksgiving, but every day? Psalms 107 tells us:
You should praise the Lord
for his love
and for the wonderful things he does for all of us.
As we look around and recognize all the “wonderful things” that are a part of our life and the world, it really is important to recognize their source. To recognize that all these things are from God, our creator.
If we think the good things in our lives come from our own doing, or some other human, material source, then they are subject to limitation, and they can be taken away, lost, or damaged. But when we realize that all good in our lives comes from God, infinite Love, then we understand that the source of these things is boundless, unlimited, and eternal. Forever ours.
What if is doesn’t look like there is any good in our lives? In these moments, we can simply cling to the fact that God, our Father-Mother Love, is even now holding us in a loving embrace, protecting us, cherishing us, and providing for us. The light of the love of Christ will shine in our darkness and reveal God’s goodness to us. Sometimes all it takes is an acknowledgement of the goodness of God for us to be able to see His presence and blessings in our life, and allow them to grow.
In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer of Christian Science says:
“Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need.” (Page 494)
We invite you to join us every year for our Thanksgiving Day Service at 10 am.
We can praise God and recognize His blessings together!
